Yoga is an ancient discipline of “yoking” (joining together) the mind, body and spirit. It is an amazing practice that goes deep into all aspects of who we are and can bring about deep healing and balancing of the body, mind and spirit. Dating back 1000’s of years, it is the first “exercise” humans practiced outside of physical labor for life-saving necessities. The many “styles” of yoga are an Americanized way of looking at the different ways to practice yoga. In India, where yoga originated, there is no “style”… just yogis that work one-on-one with their students to prescribe asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing practices), yoga Nidra (meditation), or fasting (dietary changes) to assist in healing whatever is ailing them.
